General Notes:
Employed as tram driver at Kells pit earning 5/6d per week. Started work at the age of 10 at the colliery. Thomas wrote to Earl of Lonsdale about safety at the Kells pit in 1819 and was jailed for a month. On his release, went to Newcastle Upon Tyne, where he presumably worked in the mines. Wrote a book in 1822, The Pitman's Infallibale Guide or complet Practical Instructor. In 1825 he returned to Whitehaven and was sentanced to 28 days in Carlisle jail.
He returned again in 1839 for Elizabeth's wedding ( his neice). Maybe true?
Amanda wrote "the grave is unmarked. He was found dead and the coroner wrote that there were no marks of violence upon him and he died naturally.". Letter to Cumberland Pacquet on file (m9)
